Woodmoor Beer Appreciation Society

World of Wheat Tasting held on 2 June 2007

The Society held it's first tasting in the Loving Arms Pub on 2 June. The Loving Arms was originally constructed by Bill based on his favorite watering hole while he and Carol were stationed in England. Brandon and Sarah are now the proprietors and they have offered the use of the establishment to host Society events. The theme of this event was The World of Wheat Beer and representatives of nearly every style appeared in the line-up.

Results

The overall favorite of the group was Aventinus wheat dopplebock, while Applachian Water Gap Wheat scored the lowest (except for Dan who rated it highest). Five different beers were rated as best and worst by our panelists. It may be an artifact, but as alcohol content increased, so did the average scores. As with all our events, the ultimate goal is to provide an opportunity for Society members to expand their taste horizons and sample beers they might otherwise overlook.

Doug was the most conservative voter (or he just doesn't care for wheat beer) with an average score of 18.9. As usual, Brad had the highest average score (36.4). The lowest score given was by Tom (Water Gap Wheat - 7), while Brad gave the highest score (43 to Ommegang Witte).
